Drink More Water

A simple thing like drinking water can play a big part in eliminating stress. Even mild dehydration puts enormous stress on the physical body and causes fuzzy thinking and an increase in cortisol levels.

Cortisol is a stress hormone, so you need to keep the levels down. When you are stressed your heart rate increases and your breathing becomes heavier, which means you need more fluids. It’s a vicious cycle of stress leading to dehydration and dehydration leading to more stress.

Get Enough Sleep

A good night’s sleep can do wonders for your stress levels. When you sleep it gives your body a chance to rest and repair. When you don’t get enough sleep it can make you moody and anxious. Chronic sleep deprivation can cause changes in your brain wave patterns and takes its toll on your immune system. Eliminating stress can be as simple as paying off your sleep debt.

Take Magnesium

Magnesium is known as the relaxation mineral and a deficiency can affect heart health, blood sugar levels and muscles. Eat magnesium rich foods, bath in Epsom salts or take a good supplement to make sure you are getting enough of it.

Try Meditation

Spend at least a few moments each day in quiet contemplation. If you can stop the incessant internal chatter for even a few moments your heart rate and breathing will decrease, your muscles will relax and your immune system will get a boost.

Getting out into nature or listening to some soothing music can also help you to relax and forget about the niggling day to day concerns.

Breathe

Your body needs sufficient oxygen to function optimally. Stress tends to make us take small, shallow breaths. Anytime you feel Stand by an open window, drop your shoulders and breathe slowly and deeply into your belly, then exhale slowly. Do this five or six times and notice the calming effect it has on both your mind and your body.

Exercise

Exercise is a brilliant way of recharging your energy and releasing stress. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you are moving your body and getting your heart rate up and the circulation pumping.

Walking, swimming and rebounding are all great forms of exercise.

Learn to Laugh

Laughter really is the best medicine and it doesn’t cost anything. Studies have shown that laughter has many positive short term and long term benefits to health and well-being. When life gets you down, try to have a sense of humour and see what a difference it can make in eliminating stress.

These simple steps will help in eliminating stress from your life and end up making it more enjoyable.

They are not difficult to implement, don’t take much time and cost very little.
