Generalized Anxiety Disorder Treatment
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a persistent state of worry and anxiousness far in excess of what is experienced by the general population.
Sufferers tend to worry irrationally about specific events and have a terrifying fear of being caught in certain situations, such as being stuck in highway traffic, or being in the middle seat of a row at a concert or sporting event, where they can’t make a quick escape. These fears can lead to complete avoidance of social situations. As well as specific fears, day-to-day anxiety is also uncomfortably high.
It is often paired with physical symptoms including shortness of breath, insomnia and headaches. If untreated, GAD can lead to panic disorder and depression.
Treatments are available for GAD. Many trials have shown that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be very effective in reversing the symptoms of GAD. Medication is also available, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and anti-depressants.
In a lot of cases, people are quite wary about medicating what are perceived to be medntal problems. This is certainly the case for me and when I suffered from GAD, I wasn’t keen to go down this route. In fact, after a panic attack which resulted from GAD I ended up in hospital and the only diagnosis I got was: ‘your heart is fine, you’re not going do die, here is some Valium’. It was quite frustrating and it’s what led me to try and sort things out under my own steam.
There are probably a lot of reasons that people end up at sites like this, looking to try and right themselves, whether it be a poor diagnosis from a doctor, or being unable to financially commit to visiting a health professional a dozen times for CBT, or some other reason.
After a while of researching on the internet I found out that some individuals who had once been GAD sufferers and experienced similar frustration in trying to get treated, and who had decided to put together their own treatment programs based on their own experiences of the condition and how the eventually overcame it.
It was very exciting to have access to such well put together information right there on the computer screen in front of me without having to go to the doctor’s waiting room. I was able to do things at my own pace and was excited about getting through the course and seeing results.
The guide that I tried really understood what I was going through and I felt like it was tailor made for me. It’s CBT designed by people who have actually experienced and dealt with the condition. I guess it’s like learning about how to have a winning mentality from Tiger Woods rather than a psychology professor. The only people that can really understand are the ones who have been there.
If you’re suffering from what you think is generalized anxiety disorder I strongly suggest that you give the course I followed a try. You can click the link at the bottom of the page to I’ll be very surprised if you’re not on the road to recovery in a matter of days. Remember the importance or your doctor as well. While you may not get the results you hope for, it’s important that you can rule out other medical conditions which may require urgent treatment.
